Local Attractions
We are very conveniently located for Medway tourist attractions and close to many great places to visit in Kent, as well as being within easy access of London, the Channel Tunnel and the south coast ports.
The Medway area
The Medway Towns - Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham and several surrounding towns - have a rich maritime, military and industrial heritage, with many fascinating buildings, museums and other attractions to visit.
- The Historic Dockyard: The Dockyard in which our bed and breakfast is located. Historic buildings, warships, a submarine, galleries and museums, just yards from our door!
- Fort Amherst: A 17th century fort within walking distance of us, with tunnels, gun batteries and a Civil Defence Museum.
- Rochester Castle: An impressive Norman castle in nearby Rochester, with one of the tallest keeps of any castle in the United Kingdom.
- Rochester Cathedral: England’s second oldest cathedral, founded in 604 AD, is a classic example of Norman architecture with later Gothic additions. Guided tours are available, and there are gardens and a tea-room.
- Dockside Outlet Centre: Kent᾿s newest discount outlet centre, just along the road from us, contains over 50 discount shops and restaurants.
- Dickens World: A stunning new indoor themed attraction based on the life, books and times of Charles Dickens, who grew up in Chatham. Opens in April 2007 close to us at Chatham Maritime, next to the Dockside Outlet Centre.
- Odeon Chatham: A new 9-screen cinema, also at Chatham Maritime.

Kent
We are within easy access of many attractions throughout the beautiful and historic county of Kent.
- Leeds Castle: Founded in 1119, Leeds Castle has been home to many Kings and Queens of England, and was visited frequently by Henry VIII. The stunning moated castle boasts a museum, extensive gardens, an aviary, mazes, a golf course and a vineyard.
- Canterbury Cathedral: The seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, this stunning cathedral was founded in 597 AD and is still a major attraction for tourists and pilgrims alike. Guided tours are available.
- Sissinghurst Castle Garden: One of the world’s most celebrated gardens, set in the grounds of an Elizabethan mansion with lakeside and woodland walks.
- Chartwell: The family home of Sir Winston Churchill, near Westerham in Kent, with rose and water gardens, countryside walks, and a collection of Churchill paintings, photographs and memorabilia.
- Bluewater Shopping Centre: With over 300 shops and restaurants in one of Europe’s largest shopping centres, Bluewater is only 20 minutes’ drive from us in North Kent.

Further afield
We are easily accessible by motorway from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports, the Channel Tunnel terminals at Ashford and Folkestone, and the south coast passenger ports of Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate.
Chatham has excellent rail links to London (journey time often less than an hour) and to towns throughout Kent and the south-east. There is also an extensive local and regional bus system.
